• 1956 - Elvis Presley's song Love Me Tender became the # 1 song on Billboard. He became the first artist to replace himself in the # 1 position. Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog had been the # 1 song for 11 weeks
• 1948 - In St. Louis, Missouri, Chuck Berry marries Themetta "Toddy" Suggs. They remained married until Berry's death in 2017 (69 years)
• 1958 - Buddy Holly appeared on Dick Clark's American Bandstand, performing It's So Easy and Heartbeat. It would be Holly's last major TV appearance
• 1967 - Diana Ross and the Supremes’ Greatest Hits started a five week run at # 1 on the US album chart
• 1977 - Steve Perry makes his first concert appearance with Journey at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco. He would lead them to 17 Billboard Top 40 hits over the next ten years
