Like a Rolling Stone • Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan had decided to quit music. It’s the Spring of 1965. Having just returned from a tour of England, he’s exhausted and burned out on the music and the response of “fans.” Then he wrote this song which changed everything! In his own words, “I was going to quit singing. I was very drained, and the way things were going, it was a very draggy situation ... But 'Like a Rolling Stone' changed it all. I mean it was something that I myself could dig.”
However, Columbia Records didn’t want to release a 6 minute long single. It was leaked to DJs who loved it, so Columbia relented, putting out the record. The rest is history. It went to the top of the charts, and became the most acclaimed song of all time (according to “Acclaimed Music”). Rolling Stone magazine listed it as Number 1 on their list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”
So please join me in taking a minute (or 6), to enjoy a true classic of all time….
