• 1966 - The Beach Boys Good Vibrations, entered the Top 20 on the charts and went on a few weeks later to be a US & UK # 1 hit.
As a child, Brian Wilson's mother told him that dogs could pick up "vibrations" from people, so that the dog would bark at "bad vibrations.” Wilson turned this into the general idea for a song that would virtually define his genius.
One of the first self-contained rock groups, the Beach Boys began as a garage band from Hawthorne, California, started by Brian Wilson and managed by the Wilsons' father Murray. In 1963, the group gained national prominence with a string of top-ten singles reflecting a Southern California youth culture of surfing. fast cars, and romance, dubbed the “California sound.” The Beach Boys were one of the few American rock bands to hold their own and sustain their commercial standing during the British Invasion. Good Vibrations ranks number six on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of all Time.
