• 1964 - The Animals had their only number one hit on Billboard's Hot 100 when House of the Rising Sun reached the top. To promote the group in the US, disc jockeys were sent boxes of animal crackers
• 1968 - Eric Clapton recorded the guitar solo for the Beatles' song While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the Abbey Road Studios in London
• 1969 - The Rolling Stones held on to # 1 for a third week with Honky Tonk Women. Johnny Cash couldn't get past them with A Boy Named Sue
• 1975 - The Carpenters hit # 1 on this date with their cover of the great Neil Sedaka song Solitaire
• 1976 - Meanwhile, a rock act from Boston, Massachusetts finally found a record label after being rejected by all of the other major labels. The band just called themselves Boston, and soon released what became the smash hit single More Than A Feeling
