Lisa Loeb • Stay

Lisa Loeb. She is the first musical artist ever to have a number 1 hit song, without yet having a contract with a record label! Of course it helps if you know Ethan Hawke. And it helps if your song is chosen for a popular hit movie. Which stars Ethan Hawke! She did have all that. 

And as you can imagine while that 1994 movie, Reality Bites, was in the theaters, Lisa’s phone started ringing a lot! All the record labels were suddenly interested in this person who had no representation, and who didn’t even seem to need it! So who is she? 

Well as you already know, she is Lisa Loeb. She was born in 1968 in Bethesda, Maryland, and grew up in Dallas, Texas. She has studied both piano and guitar, and performs as quite an accomplished guitarist! She has become a Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter, producer, touring artist, actress, author, and philanthropist. And her rather explosive platinum-selling number 1 hit song, is called “Stay (I Missed You).” The song reached Gold status on July 12, 1994. Lisa also has, in addition to this huge hit single, two subsequent back-to-back albums that were certified Gold; they are entitled “Tails,” and “Firecracker.”

Lisa Loeb loves singing for kids, and has done a lot of recording of children’s songs. In 2016, she released her children's CD entitled “Feel What U Feel,” which won Best Children's Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. Loeb's latest album, “A Simple Trick to Happiness” was released in February 2020.
