Christmas Song of the Day: Santa Baby, by Glüme

Yesterday: Tennessee Christmas, by Amy Grant

Santa Baby is one of the most fun, creative Christmas songs ever thought up. In my opinion (and it is my blog), the only really good version of the song was the original, recorded by Eartha Kitt in 1953. That is, until now. The new breakout artist, Glüme, just released a version of Santa Baby like no other. All the other versions (some by very famous singers) over the years, as far as I can see, were simply attempts to “re-do” the original. And it seems they did it unsuccessfully. If you can’t improve on the original, why bother recording the song again. Eartha Kitt did it perfectly!

But what Glüme has done is to completely re-envision the song. She completely reinvented it. She brought it into a new century. She didn’t just try to impersonate Eartha, as did... well, a few other famous and well-meaning female singers, who will remain nameless because one of my values with this blog is to try to keep it positive, not negative — and so we won’t even try to discuss Michael Bublé’s misguided version of this song, “Santa Buddy.”

But, no, this one by Glüme is different. It’s original. It’s innovative. It protects the integrity of the song, but transforms it somehow into a whole new creation with a whole new sound. It’s really entertaining! So fun to listen to. The arrangement and production collaboration that Glüme achieved with Ross Wariner took an already good song to a great place. A whole new layer of creativity! I know you’ll love it when you give it a listen below. There’s also an amazing video directed by Ryan McBride. Check it out below as well.

Erick Ycasa, writing for Electro Wow, commented, “‘Santa Baby’ by Glüme is an exclusive release via Italians Do It Better. I swear this is one of the coolest Xmas songs of 2020 you’ll ever hear. If you feel tired of the same old boring classics in your holiday playlist, then you must try this Electro-Pop cover, which pays tribute to Eartha Kitt. Best of all, the vintage-looking music video directed by Ryan McBride will transport you to an empty roller disco.

With dreamy synths and delicate vocals that radiate sensuality, Glüme is quickly grabbing the attention of curious web surfers. Certainly, the ethereal and melancholic feel to it transcends time and space. The actress and singer from America known as the Walmart Marilyn, is currently running the #GlumeTikTokChallenge [which was done last Christmas — 2020]. Basically, she’s asking her fans to recreate the video of ‘Santa Baby,’ the hottest clip is going to be rewarded on December 12th. Just go for it!  CONNECT WITH GLÜME NOW!”

Glüme(From her Bio on Spotify) Glüme was born & raised in the City of Angels. Getting her first taste of the silver screen as a chilid actress, she juggled time between training her voice, exploring music & wrestling with her health. Her various autoimmune issues eventually evolved into a heart disease called Prinzmetal. She doesn’t feel her body & soul are quite compatible with this world…but she loves visiting & writing about the people here. Her music collides at the crossroads where tomorrow has forgotten yesterday. Imagine a seance with Norma Jean starring as Marilyn Monroe hosted by Julee Cruise. It’s black lodge music for the blue youth of the internet age. Glüme is a shimmering new star in the Italians Do It Better (that’s the name of her record label) galaxy. Lights. Camera. Action!

(As we noted previously in another blog entry in October, regarding the single Come Softly To Me...) We could add that voiceover directors and agents have raved about the unique quality of Glüme’s vocal stylings since she was a child artist. One prominent Hollywood producer who worked with her in voiceover projects said she is the kind of vocal talent that is always in demand. Of Glüme, he once commented that she is one of those rare talents about whom it could simply be said “...the microphone loves her voice.”
