Born Too Late • The Poni-Tails
Sometimes music should just be fun! Wasn’t that one of the lessons from Mr. Holland in Mr. Holland’s Opus?
Today, I want you to just have fun listening to a simple record by a late 1950s group, known as the Poni-Tails. Formed in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, the Poni-Tails - Toni Cistone, Karen Topinka and Patti McCabe, had a huge hit in 1958 with the song “Born Too Late.” It went to #7 on the U.S. charts, and #5 on the U.K. charts! ABC-Paramount attempted to sign the group to a further five-year contract, but they turned it down. The members left the music industry and pursued careers in other fields in Ohio. They recorded a few other records, but none like this one - they were destined to be a one hit wonder.
This Summer I’ve spent some time exploring and discovering how much amazing music they had back in the 1950s. They had such fun songs! This is a new favorite of mine. Lately I’ve been thinking maybe I really did belong living in that era. Maybe I was born too late. Perhaps that’s why I’m so obsessed with time travel. 🚀

Check out this video for “Born Too Late.” (if the first video - on Vimeo - gives you trouble, try the 2nd one which is YouTube).
