Glüme • Come Softly To Me

Our new tradition at week’s end is to reflect back and celebrate the incomparable and fun music of the 1950s - called “Fab Fifties Friday Night.”  Each Friday we pick a different 50s artist to spotlight.

Tonight, our special treat is to spotlight a brand new artist who at the moment is all the rage on social media! She has just released a new single which is a cover of a 1959 classic called Come Softly To Me:”

Her name is simply: Glüme

So, who is she?

Glüme(From her Bio on Spotify) Glüme was born & raised in the City of Angels. Getting her first taste of the silver screen as a child actress, she juggled time between training her voice, exploring music & wrestling with her health. Her various autoimmune issues eventually evolved into a heart disease called Prinzmetal. She doesn’t feel her body & soul are quite compatible with this world…but she loves visiting & writing about the people here. Her music collides at the crossroads where tomorrow has forgotten yesterday. Imagine a seance with Norma Jean starring as Marilyn Monroe hosted by Julee Cruise. It’s black lodge music for the blue youth of the internet age. Glüme is a shimmering new star in the Italians Do It Better (that’s the name of her record label) galaxy. Lights. Camera. Action!

We could add that voiceover directors and agents have raved about the unique quality of her vocal stylings since she was a child artist. One prominent Hollywood producer who worked with her in voiceover projects said she is the kind of vocal talent that is always in demand. Of Glüme, he once commented that she is one of those rare talents about whom it could simply be said “...the microphone loves her voice.”

Regarding this single (Come Softly To Me”) as well as it’s accompanying music video, there has been much enthusiasm on social media. Adrian Vargas at Atwood Magazine was apparently quite dazzled, writing: “Gentle strokes of the keys and atmospheric ambient tones open the track and provide the gateway for Glüme’s vocal resonance. Her incantations are a whispered beauty, gently, or in this case softly, floating around the ears as her words hypnotize listeners. It doesn’t take long for this ethereal playground to be built, bringing with it an elation nonpareil and otherworldly. ‘Come softly, darling. Come to me, stay. You’re my obsession,’ the beginning lines to pure ecstasy – a soundscape one would be hard-pressed to want to come down from.”

He further adds, “The ‘50s are clearly a point in time which Glüme is inspired by, but instead of rehashing old material, she manages to create new art through her work, and “Come Softly To Me” is a gorgeous showcasing of an immense level of artistry.

As to the new song “Come Softly To Me,” look below and there is a link to watch the video just released a week ago.

Of her 1st single released a few weeks back (which so far charted at #96 on the electronics chart), Glüme in her own words:

“Body is about returning from an episode I get with my heart disease & starting to notice each part of my body working again. It’s an intense feeling & you want to be loud & express relief & sadness & feeling powerful, but you’re still weak. I think anytime a body is taken by physical or mental illness & you come out of it…It’s a triumph that’s hard to communicate.”

“You wish people could hear.”
